We are pleased to announce that the upcoming election for the Retired Employees Association of Jacksonville 2027-2029 Executive Board will be held on September 19, 2026. This important event provides an opportunity for our members to participate in the decision-making process and help shape the future of our organization. All candidates interested in running for a position must submit their information (name, phone number, email address and position they’re seeking) to the REA office by 2:00pm August 28, 2026.

ANNUAL AFFIDAVITS UPDATE:

The yearly pension affidavit must be notarized in order to continue receiving your pension benefit.  Notarized affidavits can be scanned and e-mailed to: citypension@coj.net or mailed to the Pension Office. 

Notarized affidavits can be hand-delivered to an employee of the Pension Office but will require photo identification that reflects your current address.

VICTORY! HR82 WEP/SS Fairness Act

After over 30 years of hearings, promises, and debate urging Congress to repeal the Social Security Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and Government Pension Offset (GPO), we reached “victory lane” early in the morning of December 21st, 2024, when the Senate voted to pass HR 82. The vote was 74 – 20 to approve the Social Security Fairness Act repealing the WEP and GPO. These provisions unfairly target government retirees who are eligible for benefits they have paid for and also receive a governmental pension. The House passed the Social Security Fairness Act by a vote of 327 to 75 on November 12, 2025. The bill will be sent to the President, who has pledged to sign the legislation. We thank all who supported the enactment – FOP, IAFF, NARFE, NLCU, AFT, AFL-CIO, and others.

ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP FEES ARE DUE JAN 1, 2025

Reminders will be mailed out this week.  So be on the lookout for mail from the R.E.A.

This reminder is for those members who pay annually in lieu of auto deduction via payroll. Membership fees are due January 1, 2025. If you joined before 2014, the cost is $19.50 and if you joined after 2014, membership is $26.00 for the year.
